Preparation is Key

I am all set for our detox/cleanse for Day 4.

I have washed and laid out all of our NutriBullet containers, and have prepared all of the necessary ingredients for tomorrow.

Tomorrow's smoothie is called Berry Peachy and consists of the following:

  • 2 handfuls kale
  • 1 handful spinach
  • 2 cups water
  • 2 apples, cored, quartered
  • 1 1/2 cups frozen peaches
  • 1 1/2 cups frozen mixed berries
  • 2 packets stevia
  • 2 tablespoons ground flaxseeds
I have divided up all of the ingredients, packed them in freezer storage bags, and have placed them in the freezer/refrigerator as necessary.  All I have to do is pack my husband's raw nuts into his container and we are ready to go!

Considering that my One Word for the Year was "Prepare", this lesson on preparation is fitting.

I am looking forward to what tomorrow will bring but for now, I am looking forward to a good night's rest.

Be blessed everyone!

Day 3 - I'm Hungry :-\

I am glad to report that today was another successful day.
  • Smoothies with flax seeds...CHECK
  • Raw nuts...CHECK
  • Raw fruit...CHECK
  • Water...CHECK
  • Detox tea...CHECK
  • Cravings for fried chicken...CHECK, CHECK, AND MORE CHECKS

Trust me, I am well aware of the benefits of this cleanse, which I remind myself of each time I want something other than this cleanse, but boy oh boy is fried chicken calling my name.  :-/

Don't worry, I'm not going to eat any, I'm just saying...

Even my hubby was complaining that he was hungry but he is a trooper...he just grabbed a handful of nuts and settled for them LOL.

This particular cleanse allows you to eat additional foods besides just the raw fruit, veggies and nuts that I am used to.  For example, you're allowed to eat natural peanut butter and hard boiled eggs.  And boy are they both yummy! ;-)))))))))))))))))))

I am not sure how much cleansing I am really doing when I am eating, I don't know, let's say 6 hard boiled eggs at one time. 0.0 (that's wide eyes just in case it doesn't translate in the blog).  But hey, they should have never told me that they were allowed!

Today I just felt like I needed a bit more roughage so I just shoveled handfuls of kale and lettuce down my throat.

The symptoms are not as bad today...well, at least the headaches are gone.  The fatigue and nausea are still there but it comes with the territory.  Oh and I have acne to add to the mix - a sure sign that my skin is releasing toxins.  Yayyyy for me!

Time will tell.

I took some pics but they look almost identical to past pics.

Berry Green smoothie (made with spinach, apple, mango, strawberry, grape and flaxseeds)
Technically this should be for Day 1 but I improvised because my husband is allergic to bananas

Apple Berry smoothie (made with spring mix greens, spinach, blueberry, banana, apple, and flax seeds) and detox tea (Dhealthstore).

Day 2 - Another Successful Day

Well, my husband and I have successfully completed Day 2 of our Green Smoothie Cleanse.

As promised, I prepared last night and although I was still running a bit later for work than anticipated (I arrived right at 8:00 AM as opposed to earlier), smoothies and snacks were in our hands and ready to go by 7:30 AM.  OOPS...I did forget to put flax seeds in our smoothies though :>|

Today's smoothie was not as tasty but we still kept up with the prescribed diet of raw fruit, veggies, and nuts, and of course water.  My husband is allergic to bananas, which is one of the ingredients for today and tomorrow's smoothie so I improvised by putting extra of the other ingredients.

We are beginning to feel the normal effects of detoxing such as headaches, fatigue, nausea, and flu-like symptoms which are all good signs of progress. WHOOO HOOO!!!!! :-/ Uggghhhh!!!

On that note, I am going to bed zzzzzzzz.

Here are a few pics...

Day 1 -Trial to Triumph

So, of course you know that today was the 1st day of the 10-day Green Smoothie cleanse yayyyyyy!!

When you are on the horizon of something great, trials must come your way.

My trial began when I woke up cheery eyed to begin making OUR smoothies (my husband has joined me on this 10-day journey :-)))))))))))))) and I discovered that my Smoothie maker was broken :-(  Not only was it broken, but all of the contents of my smoothie ended up in the kitchen sink.  I immediately went into panic mode because I knew that my NutriBullet had already conked out on me.  What was I going to do?  It was 7:30 AM, the time that my husband was supposed to leave for work, and here I was still standing in the middle of the kitchen not even ready for work myself (I have to be at work at 8:00 AM) and I had no smoothies.  My panic turned into prayer and I asked God to make a way...and He did.  I ran to the closet and took out the NutriBullet, praying the entire time that it would work for me... it did! There is power in prayer!

So, I began emptying the ingredients into the NutriBullet, which now needed to be divided up as my NutriBullet is not as big as the Smoothie maker, but it began to work.  My husband began walking down the stairs noticing that I still did not have a stitch of work clothes on, and he was ready to walk out of the door.  Panic turned into prayer which turned into praise as I was able to present him with his very first smoothie.  AND he liked it! You do not understand the magnitude of this.  I have invited my husband to join me in detox after detox and cleanse after cleanse and his response was always the same, "NO, I'm not doing that!"  So imagine my surprise when not only did he agree, but he enjoyed.

So, he walked out of the door with his smoothie, water and snacks (raw nuts) and I just spoke to him and he admitted that he finished half of his smoothie this morning, and ate most of his nuts.  Now he is ready to finish consuming his smoothie for dinner.  God be praised!

Now that I have a working process, I will prepare myself for the morning by taking JJ Smith's suggestion and place all of our ingredients in a storage bag so I can just dump and blend in the morning.  I will also pre-pack our snacks so that the preparation is shortened.

Because of the way my morning went, I was not able to capture the pictures that I would have liked to but here's what I got...

I am back again

Hello everyone,

After a 6 month hiatus I am once again posting.

In my last post I admitted that I live to eat instead of eat to live. Things have not been much better but I made a determination to get back on the right track.

In order to jumpstart this rebirth, I will begin a 10-day Green Smoothie cleanse this Tuesday.

If you are interested in joining me, please leave your email address and I will email you the pdf version of JJ Smith's book on this cleanse.

I am looking forward to getting back to the healthy, energized, and disciplined me.

Join me!

Admission - My name is Tyeshia Hilbert and I...

The first step to healing and deliverance is being able to recognize that there is a problem.

So I am writing to admit that my name is Tyeshia Hilbert, and I live to eat, not eat to live, and I often find myself finding comfort in food.  There...I've said it!

It took me this long to come back to my blog because I felt like a failure for not completing the detox.  I was doing very well but when tragedy or trauma strikes, I often look for comfort in the wrong things... like food.  During my detox, I got a phone call which involved me having to take a loved one to the ER, and it just turned my whole mindset upside down.  It was at that moment that I decided that I needed something warm to eat, therefore deviating from my detox and raw eating.  Unfortunately this trend has continued up until about a week ago when I decided that enough is truly enough.

I thank God for how He sends encouragement through His children at just the right time.  I was sitting in my office one day when a saved colleague came in, and I was compelled to tell her about my journey and recent "failure".  She told me not to put myself down and just see this as part of the journey.  She complimented me for being able to self-reflect, and asked me to use this time of self-reflection to process life as it's happening, and determine to stay on course.  I truly thank God for her.

I am starting to pay attention to the signs as well.  The moment after I have received some news that can possibly send me over the edge, I get an immediate headache, and the next thought is to go and relieve my "pain" with something warm and yummy to eat.  Now that I am aware of this, I can be more cognizant and ask God for self-control in these moments.  I also have been preparing green juices consisting of kale, bananas, strawberries, and chia seeds, and keeping them close by in case of an emergency, and as my meals.  I keep healthy snacks around too.

I have not consistently worked out in about a year, and have gained over 40 pounds as a result, and was officially told that I was overweight by my doctor.  This is a lonnnnnnng way away from the trim, fit and healthy Tye that I had become through this journey, but I am determined to treat myself better.

I also need to share that about a month or so ago, the rashes on my legs came back in full force.  I ate a whooooooooole lot of yummy foods during that time.   I went to the doctor and she gave me a steroidal cream which caused even more bumps, and she wanted me to go back to the dermatologist for a possible biopsy (this would have been my 4th biopsy).  I had also purchased a blood detox along with my full body detox and had begun taking those pills as well, but stopped on the 3rd day because I wasn't eating to fidelity.  When I came to myself, I reminded myself of the healing that God had already provided from the auto-immune disease, and I was determined to believe God for the healing of these rashes as well.  So one night I laid hands on myself and began to pray and ask God for healing, and claimed my healing. Within a day or two, those rashes were beginning to heal, and soon, there wasn't a trace left.  God is indeed a healer.

I wrote all of this to say that regardless of the mistakes that we have made in life, or how many times we have fallen, God has given us the ability to get back up again in Him, and begin anew.  So instead of wallowing in the mess that we've made, determine not to mess up anymore and begin living the way God intended from the beginning.

I truly thank God for this journey, and for the life's lessons that He is teaching me through it.

Continue to be blessed.
